Dr. Who is God. 04/23/10 Dr. Who is probably as close to god as the Christians are going to find. Let me explain. As I sit here watching my freshly downloaded pirate-sourced DIVX of the new Dr. Who season premier, I am struck with that notion. The episode begins with a little Scottish girl saying her prayers before bedtime. There is a crack in her wall, through which in true Dr. Who-ian fashion, she is hearing frightening voices. She is appealing to her presumably catholic god to please mend the crack, or send someone to help, such as a police man or... BOOM: Dr. Who crash lands in her back yard, just outside her window. ABSURD! I thought at first. But I was wrong to assume that the writers of Dr. Who would allude to such a concept as that which stated, "god really could be reached by forming a prayer antenna with your hands, closing your eyes, and speaking to him aloud... and that he exists." That's not what they were getting at. What they mean to convey is that if ANY entity like a monotheistic, influential omnipotent being exists, then we should not call him god, but perhaps Timelord! Have you ever stopped to wonder about how some of the mysterious occurrences that we experience today would have been perceived by humans with the same ability to think as complex thoughts as we have, but without the scientific knowledge we have? Imagine you are an ancient Egyptian and you meet the good Doctor! A being in bizarre clothing riding in on a chariot that falls from the sky. An alien from another world with the technological prowess necessary to manipulate the very nature of time and space itself. As a thoughtful ancient scientist you would have no choice but to come to the logical conclusion: Dr. Who is a god. -CH3SH1R3 M4TT Share |
